Just finished canning 17 jars of applesauce (and the equivalent of another is in the fridge for pancakes tomorrow and to make more granola bars).
In thinking about this endeavor, I have really saved a lot of money. I got the apples from a kind neighbor/friend of my mother-in-law's. I was given something like 40 jars, a canner, jar lifter, and recipe books.

I did buy the peaches... but inexpensively.

I bought the lids and rings, 2 cases of jars (before I was given so many), and a canning funnel.

I hope they all seal properly and last all winter :)
I love that canning is supporting local produce and farmers, and is all about keeping American jobs. Oh, and that the quality food is fresh in the dead of winter!
